I’d must examine with you here. Which is not something I often do! I get pleasure from studying a submit that can make people think. Also, thanks for permitting me to comment!

"It is important to note that police departments must still get prior approval from Superior Court judges to set them up."
This comment alone just boggles my mind and makes one wonder what in the heck the lawmakers in NH are thinking. I hope all voting citizens are smart enough to let their lawmakers know this is a bad idea and the power to approve a sobriety checkpoint should NOT come from a judge. There are procedures that can be set in place to make certain the checkpoint is done lawfully and fair and this should be enough. If a chief of police feels one is justified then allow them that authority.
How anyone could oppose a sobriety checkpoint is beyond me.

I do not think they shoud be banned. I do however think they should be used for the sole purpose it was intended for. Not this pick a few here and there crap. The first thing you are asked for is your ID and registration. Why? I thought it was a DUI check point, not a check on the status of my ID and if I am valid in NH. Then after seeing all is ok do they ask if you had anything to drink tonight.

I think that the check points should include ALL vehicles proceeding through the check point. It should start off with a blow into the hand held breathalizer, if you fail, then it is time to check for a ID and registration. I also am a firm believer that if you attempt to avooid the check point, you should be held and charge with withfully avoiding.

Again, the program should stay but there should be some changes to it.

Ban them. They *are* unconstitutional. I shouldn't need to show my papers to leave my own town, particularly when there's only 3 methods of egress (95, 4/16, and Rt 1 Bypass).

Seriously, it's insane to think about that this is even possible in a free society.

The only reason I can see for anyone wanting them shut, is for people who don't want to get caught drinking & driving. The reason for check points is because people have proved they can't govern themselves & their own actions. There is many other reasons to give police bad press, but keeping our roads safe is something they should be doing. If they catch just one person, take them off the road & save another driver from getting killed from the thoughtless actions of a drunk driver, then they are hero's in my mind. I would hate to vote against this & have some child, teenager or even other responsible victim killed because some Conservative politicians think they're unconstitutional. There is a big difference in being conservative & just having common sense. Even politicians have been known to drink & drive. I vote for it for a few reasons. I was hit by a drunk driver & will spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. But the main reason, I don't want to get a call that one of my kids just got hit from a drunk behind the wheel. I will vote anyone out of office if they are that stupid to believe it's unconstitutional.
